Backloading Questions

Learn more about backloading →
What is backloading?
Backloading means sharing space on a truck that's already travelling your route. Instead of paying for a whole truck, you share the cost with other customers heading the same way. This can save you up to 60% compared to a dedicated removal.
How much can I save with backloading?
Savings vary depending on your route and how much you're moving, but customers typically save 30-60% compared to exclusive truck hire. The more flexible you are with dates, the more you can save.
How long does backloading take?
Transit times vary by route. Brisbane to Sydney might be 3-5 days, while Perth to Melbourne could be 7-10 days. We'll give you an estimated timeframe when you get a quote, and keep you updated throughout.
Is my furniture safe when sharing a truck?
Yes. Your items are professionally wrapped, secured with straps, and separated from other loads using steel partitions. We treat backloading jobs with the same care as dedicated moves. Moving furniture long distances does carry some inherent risk, but we take every precaution to protect your belongings.
Do I need to be flexible with dates?
Some flexibility helps—we typically ask for a 48-hour pickup window rather than a specific day. This lets us match you with trucks heading your way, which is how we offer lower prices.
Is there a minimum amount I need to move?
Not at all—that's the main benefit of backloading. It enables us to take anything from 1 item to an entire truck full. Just send through a list of what you need to move and we'll give you a price.
Will you beat competitor quotes?
Whilst we believe you'll generally not find a cheaper price, if you somehow do we'll happily do our best to beat it for you.

Interstate Moving Questions

Complete interstate moving guide →
How much notice do you need?
Ideally, we'd like around a week to provide the best service. For last-minute jobs between metropolitan areas, we can often work with just 48 hours notice.
How do I get an accurate moving quote?
Create a detailed inventory of everything you're moving. We always request an inventory list as it's the most accurate way to quote. When customers estimate cubic metres themselves, they often over or underestimate the size which leads to incorrect pricing.
What's included in the moving price?
Our quotes include pickup, transit, delivery, basic wrapping, and transit insurance. Packing services, specialty item handling, and storage are available as add-ons. Your quote will clearly show what's included.
How many boxes do I need?
It depends on your home size. A 2-bedroom typically needs 20-30 boxes, while a 4-bedroom might need 35-60. Standard removal cartons are approx 650×450×450mm. Book cartons are 400×300×430mm. Check our box calculator for detailed estimates.
What about insurance?
Transit insurance is included via our contractors, covering fire, collision, and overturning during transport. For complete protection including breakage and handling damage, we recommend full moving insurance from movinginsurance.com.au.
Can you move items from multiple locations?
Yes, we can arrange pickups from multiple addresses. Just let us know when you're getting a quote—there may be additional charges depending on the locations and distances involved.
Should I wrap upholstered furniture in plastic?
Yes, we always recommend wrapping upholstered furniture in plastic covers. Even when wrapped in our removal blankets, items can sometimes get dusty or dirty inside the truck during transit.
Can I leave items inside drawers?
It's never a good idea to store items inside drawers during a move. It runs a high risk of damaging the drawers, and there's also the possibility of belongings falling out and getting lost.
Can I move pot plants interstate?
Yes, most common house plants can be moved, but each state has different quarantine rules. WA and Tasmania are strictest. Check our Moving Pot Plants guide and your destination state's requirements.

Car Transport Questions

Car transport explained →
Can I put my car on your furniture truck?
No, cars can't travel on furniture trucks. However, we can give you a separate quote to transport your car on a dedicated car carrier at the same time as your furniture.
How does car transport work?
Your vehicle is collected by a car carrier and transported to your destination. You can choose door-to-door pickup/delivery or depot-to-depot for savings. Cars are secured and transported by professional carriers.
Open or enclosed transport—what's the difference?
Open transport is the standard, cost-effective option suitable for most vehicles. Enclosed transport provides extra protection from weather and road debris—recommended for luxury, classic, or high-value vehicles.
How long does car transport take?
Transit times depend on distance and route frequency. East coast moves (e.g., Sydney to Melbourne) might be 2-4 days. Cross-country routes (e.g., Perth to Brisbane) can take 7-12 days.
Do I need to prepare my car?
Yes—remove personal belongings, ensure the car starts and brakes work, check for leaks, note any existing damage, and keep fuel at about ¼ tank. We'll provide a full preparation checklist.
Is my car insured during transport?
All vehicles are covered by the carrier's transit insurance during transport. For high-value vehicles, you may want additional coverage. Check with your own insurer about any policy requirements.
